Different Stages of Yoga

Generally, Yoga consists of and is described in eight stages astanga-yoga, (‘eight-membered Yoga’). Yama (‘restraint’) denoting abstinence from injury (ahimsa), falsehood, stealing, lust, and avarice is the first stage; with niyama (‘observance’), denoting cleanliness of body, contentment, austerity, study, and devotion to God, the second stage.

Yoga Explained

Originating and implemented in India thousands of years ago, Yoga, essentially is a way of life and an integrated means of synchronizing mind, spirit, and body, a system now practiced universally, regardless of caste, creed or religion.

A Comfortable State of Mind and Body

Yoga Guru Patanjali has defined Yoga as a ‘steady and comfortable state of Mind and Body’. And, a comfortable and steady state of body and mind is precisely what practising yoga delivers. Other forms of exercise increase the strain on body muscles, as well as, the requirement for blood and oxygen. But, Yoga ‘asanas’ or postures not only lessen the need, decreasing the strain on them, they also cause every muscle in the body to relax. Similarly, the body’s requirement for blood and oxygen goes down, reducing the strain on the mind and making it stable and focused.

Branches Or Basics of Yoga

Ancient practitioners have likened yoga to a living tree with six branches coming from the trunk, with each branch having its own unique function relating to a particular lifestyle. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is one of the six darshanas of Hindu or Vedic schools and, alongside the Bhagvada Gita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika, is a milestone in the history of Yoga. Though brief, the Yoga Sutras are an enormously influential work, just as relevant for yoga philosophy and practice today, as when written many thousands of years ago.

Yoga a blend of Spiritual and Physical Exercises

Yoga, the brainchild of the ancient Hindus is a form of mysticism, whose origin is impossible to trace, dating back as it does to thousands of years before recorded history. One of the six schools of Hindu philosophy, Maharishi (or Sage) Patanjali, its founding father lived a full three centuries before Christ. A great philosopher and grammarian, he was also a physician, with a considerable body of medical work attributed to him, though this work has been lost in the pages of time. Though founded by Patanjali, yet Yoga existed as a distinct teaching and system of life long before him.

City of Peace - East Meets West. The Dream of the Spiritual Is-Ra-El

The One Integrated Spirit (IS) as the spiritual IS-Ra-EL (Zion: The Core of the Universal Mind) has been trying desperately to unify His children (all the individuals of mankind) around the perception of One-ness for the length of this Creation, always hoping to gather them from their exile from Himself. sHe has made a protective connection for the third time in the history of this Creation between the Eternally unified JeruShalem (The One: Unity Itself) above and the manifested earthly JeruShalem (ancient Hebrew name for Jerusalem) of the City below, as the capital of an earthly IS-Ra-El, in an attempt to manifest the Holy of Holies of unity, love, and kindness, within the inner and outer Dream of this Creation. In that act he desires to project a sense of unified completion and perfection as Shalem (completion in unity, perfection, and peace in Hebrew) as the individual self reunites with the totality of the Universal Self, feeling within and expressing without the Peace of God manifested as outer peace (Shalom in Hebrew and Salaam in Arabic).
