Supersize These! How silicon served Jordan

Cosmetic surgery continues to create controversy; there are those who believe that everybody should be completely happy with the way we look naturally, and that we should never resort to body modifications. However, there are plenty who see nothing wrong with making yourself look and therefore feel better by visiting a plastic surgeon, and therefore cosmetic surgery is becoming an increasingly more popular and acceptable practice.

Whatever your personal feelings on cosmetic surgery, it can’t be denied that it has certainly improved the lives of many who have chosen to face the scalpel. Katie Price (or Jordan as she is also known) is one example of someone who has used her cosmetic enhancements to further a career which has taken her well beyond the world of glamour modelling.

Going under the knife to increase her assets from a B cup to an E, it was the growth in Jordan’s bra size that also led to a growth in her bank account. She went from a Page 3 Sun stunner to glamour model extraordinaire with appearances in FHM, Maxim, Loaded, Esquire, Playboy and later American Vogue.

Critics of Jordan are scornful of the Sussex girl who used her chest to force her way into the public eye, but despite the bimbo tag that she has been given by some, Jordan has her head screwed on tightly, and though many don’t think much of her acting or singing talents, when it comes to self-publicity, Jordan is anything but blonde.

Using her modelling foundation as a spring board to bounce into more respected and lucrative roles, Jordan’s first big TV break came in the form of the reality TV series “I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of Here!”. The success of this show led to a string of other TV appearances including documentaries, and she is now the co-host of her own chat show “Katie and Peter: Unleashed.”

Jordan has used her TV appearances to work her way into the world of words and has had two ghost-written autobiographies published. The first, ‘Being Jordan’ (published in 2004), has gone on to sell over one million copies as of January 2007, and her second (’Jordan: A Whole New World’ - published 2006) has sold over 200,000 copies to date. Yet again building on previous success, she went on to write “Angel” - a novel about a model, which was surprising popular, selling 300,000 copies in six weeks.

Though we’ll never know for sure how Jordan’s life would have panned out had she chosen not to enhance her assets through cosmetic surgery, it’s certainly likely that without the creation of her silicon valley, she may never have gone on to be a successful model, author, TV show host and one of the richest women in Britain, with an estimated fortune of £30 million and rising.

Whilst bigger in not always better, in the case of Katie Price - silicon supersizing has served her well.
